Technical
explanation - Oxygen Massage
Massage
therapy is designed to assist
in the body’s delivery
of oxygen to
muscles and to reduce the
carbon
dioxide and lactic acid that
builds up
in muscle tissue. Muscles
that are in
spasm tighten around blood
vessels.
The muscles in spasm do not
allow
sufficient oxygen to get to
the muscles
that need it most. This results
in excess
lactic acid in the affected
muscle
group causing further pain
and
spasm. This vicious cycle
is often very
difficult to stop. Narcotics,
anti-inflammatory
medications, physical therapy
and muscle relaxers have been
minimally
effective for these problems.
Stress
relief, chronic fatigue, tension
and migraine headache, muscle
aches and spasms, back pain,
neck
and shoulder pain, chronic
pain syndrome,
reflex sympathetic dystrophy
and fibromyalgia. It is well
known that
the persistent pain associated
with
chronic muscular tension and
spasm is
caused by the build up of
lactic acid
inside a contracted muscle.
Lactic
acid is a waste product of
oxygen
starved muscular metabolism.
Massage brings external pressure
to
the muscles in spasm and mechanically
squeezes lactic acid and carbon
dioxide out of these muscles.
The
release of carbon dioxide
and lactic
acid is dependent on the ability
of the
body to supply oxygen to these
muscles.
Anyone who has experienced
“shin splints”
or leg cramps understands
the pain caused by lactic
acid
build up from muscle spasm.
Massage
has been somewhat effective
in helping
this condition but the process
is
largely dependent on the displacement
of lactic acid in muscles
in
spasm. Theoretically the higher
the
concentration of oxygen in
the blood
at the time of the massage,
the
greater likelihood of displacement
of
carbon dioxide and lactic
acid. This
lend itself, theory to faster
and more
complete relief of pain. Studies
as to
the actual effectiveness of
oxygen
massage over other types of
therapy
are ongoing.

Hot

An ancient healing art utilizing thermal
lava stones. The heat from the stones radiate
deep into the muscles relieving chronic
muscle tension and pain. The massage is
designed to truly relax the mind, body and
spirit. Also helps normalize body functions
and improve the work of the immune and lymphatic
system.
What
is Oxygen Massage?
A wonderfully relaxing session of holistic
therapy, directed by a licensed, board certified,
medical doctor which is designed and tailored
to your specific needs by both the physician
and the therapist.
How
is it different from any other massage?
You've heard of oxygen bars, at Elle Medical
Spa we have combined an oxygen bar with
massage therapy. Oxygen Massage is a medically
supervised therapy session where supplemental
oxygen is given during the massage treatment.
Oxygen Massage is a relaxing, rejuvenating
and invigorating therapy.
Why
is it any better than any other massage?
Oxygen Massage® is provided under the
supervision of a licensed, board certified
physician. Massage therapy alone helps relieve
stress and pain due to its ability to remove
toxins from the body. Displacement of toxins
is more effective when the environment is
carefully controlled. The use of Oxygen
improves the effectiveness of the therapy
sessions. The health benefits and energizing
effects of Oxygen are well known and have
now been put to very effective use when
combined with massage therapy.
Are
there any harmful or negative effects of
Oxygen Massage?
No. There is no evidence that short-term
exposure to increased levels of oxygen with
or without massage therapy can produce any
harmful effects. In fact, oxygen bars are
readily becoming available to the general
public. These facilities do not have a physician
or licensed health professional directing
the therapy or regulating the dose of oxygen.
Oxygen administration at Elle Medical Spa
is carefully regulated and monitored by
the licensed, board certified physician
director.
Why
would an Oxygen Massage be ordered for me?
It is one of the most effective natural
and holistic therapies of relieving back
pain, headaches, tension, stress and a host
of ailments that are worsened by excessive
stress. Therapy is designed to help patients
reduce or eliminate the need for pain medications.
Can
I have Oxygen Massage if I’m pregnant?
While no harmful effects of increased oxygen
inhalation during massage has been demonstrated,
it is advisable to wait until you have delivered
to experience Oxygen Massage.
Is
Oxygen Massage covered by my insurance?
This will depend on your insurance company.
Since the therapy involves a medical evaluation
and the delivery of oxygen, ordered by and
under the direction of a physician, some
insurance companies reimburse patients for
this expense. You will be provided with
a prescription for the therapy service,
a diagnostic/procedure code and other documentation
necessary for you to submit to your insurance
company for reimbursement.
